PM receives final courtesy call from Australian High Commissioner

Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley received a farewell courtesy call from Australia's High Commissioner to Trinidad and Tobago, John Pilbeam.

They met at Whitehall on Tuesday.

The visit concludes Pilbeam's farewell tour as September 3, 2019 was his last working day in office. He returns to Australia on September 4, 2019..

Pilbeam served as Australia’s High Commissioner to Trinidad and Tobago from 2016. This year, both countries celebrated 45 years of diplomatic relations. In May 2018, Dr Rowley accepted an invitation from the Australian Government for a working visit to Australia.

Trinidad and Tobago is Australia's major trading partner in the Caribbean with two-way merchandise trade around A$41 million in 2018 (exports A$19.8 million, imports A$21.5 million). Trinidad and Tobago is also expected to receive two fast ferries and two patrol vessels which are being constructed in Australia, in mid 2020.
