PM seeks clarification on Archie's 'sabbatical'
Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley has written to President Anthony Carmona requesting clarification on the constitutional grounds under which Chief Justice Ivor Archie was granted a six-month sabbatical.
Archie proceeded on the leave to rest and reflect, and partake in a study programme.
At Thursday's Post Cabinet media briefing, Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister Stuart Young said communication on the matter was only received from the Office of the President on Tuesday.
Rowley, who was not made aware of the matter prior to receiving said correspondence, wrote to the President requesting clarification on the basis for Achie's application for sabbatical.
Young told reporters that there currently exists no terms or conditions allowing the Chief Justice to proceed on such leave.
However, there is nothing to prevent Archie from leaving the jurisdiction.
