Prominent attorney at law Keith Scotland will contest the Port of Spain South seat in the upcoming general election.

Scotland was selected by the screening committee of the People's National Movement (PNM) on Thursday night.

PNM Public Relations Officer (PRO) Laurel Lezama-Lee Singh confirmed Scotland's selection to Loop News.

"Last night, Mr Keith Scotland was successfully screened and was selected as the PNM’s Prospective Candidate for POS South."

National shotputter Cleopatra Borel was initially selected to contest the seat.

However, nominations were reopened after it was revealed that Borel holds dual citizenship.

The PNM has now completed its screening exercise for the general election.

Meanwhile, PNM Deputy Political Leader Fitzgerald Hinds said Port of Spain South produced a "qualified, strong and able attorney at law as its choice."

"He screened powerfully, as did all the other nominees. It was a keen contest, but Keith Scotland emerged as our man."
