PNM tells public: Reject Devant Maharaj's mischief

The People’s National Movement (PNM) is calling on members of the public to reject the actions of former Government Minister Devant Maharaj who has published the phone numbers of Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley and National Security Minister Stuart Young, over the weekend.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the PNM says it is horrified and disgusted by the repulsive and reckless behaviour exhibited by the United National Congress (UNC) spokesperson.

“His most recent insidious action in which he published and widely circulated the telephone number of the country’s Prime Minister, compounded by his pathetic public call to intentionally harass and effectively torment the democratically elected leader of our country serves only to prove his imbecilic and obnoxious levels of thinking, and his malicious intent to attempt to destabilize the country."

The PNM warned Maharaj that he should be aware that he cannot incite citizens to threaten the Prime Minister or any other citizen for that matter.

This comes after Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley said he received threatening phone calls since his number went public.

The PNM further says it deems Maharaj’s most recent action an attempt to hinder the government from running the country.

“His most recent insidious action in which he published and widely circulated the telephone number of the country’s Prime Minister, compounded by his pathetic public call to intentionally harass and effectively torment the democratically elected leader of our country serves only to prove his imbecilic and obnoxious levels of thinking, and his malicious intent to attempt to destabilize the country.”

The political party also sought to question the UNC on its failure to comment on the matter.

“Why is the UNC so silent on the most recent activities of its frontline member Devant Maharaj? Is the leader of the UNC who is also the Opposition Leader in support of this despicable type of action?”
