Point Fortin man held with gun, drugs

One man was arrested and a revolver and quantities of ammunition and marijuana seized, during an anti-crime exercise, by officers of the Point Fortin Police Station, on Friday, January 19, 2018.

The exercise, spearheaded by Insp. Brian Ramphall, supervised by Sgts. Ryan Ali and Ryan Ramsingh, and including Cpls Adrian Andrews, Mahendra Sookoo and Naresh Bajan, was conducted around 10:30 am, during which the officers, based on information received, proceeded to Warden Road, Point Fortin.

Officers said they observed a man standing under a mango tree with a backpack. The man was held and a search of the bag resulted in one black and silver revolver and four rounds of .38mm ammunition being found.

A further search resulted in a black plastic bag containing 52 silver foil packets, being discovered. The packets contained a total of 69 grammes of marijuana.

The suspect, a 54-year-old man of Hollywood, Point Fortin, was arrested in connection with the finds.

In a separate exercise, officers acting on information, proceeded to Church Street, Point Fortin, where they conducted a search of an abandoned house where a revolver was found.

No arrest was made in connection with the find.
