Police and soldier held after incident in San Fernando

A 39-year-old man is warded in a serious condition at the San Fernando General Hospital after he was attacked on Saturday night.

The alleged assailants, LoopTT was told, are a police constable and a member of the Trinidad and Tobago Regiment.

The victim, who resides in Corinth Settlement, Ste Madeleine, told police that at around 9.15 PM on Saturday, he was at a popular bar located along Manahambre Road when he got into an altercation with a group.

The confrontation continued outside where the man was reportedly attacked by the two law enforcement officers.

It was alleged that the police constable was armed with a cutlass and dealt the victim several chops about the body. Witnesses notified the police and paramedics.

The victim was taken to the hospital for medical treatment, while the police constable and the regiment officer were both detained are currently aiding with inquiries.

Part of the incident, LoopTT was told, was captured on CCTV footage.
