Police and THA to investigate 5-year-old Zakiah Lorde's death
The Police Service and The Tobago House of Assembly (THA) have both launched separate investigations into the death of 5-year-old Zakiah Lorde.
The first-year student of Black Rock Government Primary school succumbed to her injuries on Saturday after a tree branch fell on her as she was leaving for school last Wednesday.
Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister, Ayanna Webster-Roy, speaking in the Senate on Monday said both organisations were looking into the matter.
She was responding to the urgent question posed to her by Opposition Senator Wade Mark, on whether an investigation would be launched into the freak accident.
"Let me first extend sincere condolences to the family, friends and loved ones of young Zakiah. The matter is currently being investigated by the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service."
"Since the incident occurred, the Tobago House of Assembly would have been investigating and looking into their safety procedures and protocols," she said.
Zakiha reportedly suffered several fractures to her skull, multiple injuries to her upper body, internal bleeding, and slipped into a coma until her death on Saturday.
The child would have turned six on Monday.
