Police arrest ten, seize firearms, ammo and drugs

Police exercises across Trinidad and Tobago on Friday have resulted in ten arrests and the seizure of a quantity of firearm, ammunition, and narcotics.

One man was arrested and a firearm and quantity of ammunition seized, by officers of the San Fernando Criminal Investigations Department, during an anti-crime exercise conducted in the La Romain district, yesterday morning.

During the exercise, officers executed a search warrant at the Duncan Village, La Romain home of a 36-year-old man, around 5:30 am on Friday. The search resulted in a Smith and Wesson pistol, loaded with a magazine containing 13 rounds of ammunition, being discovered hidden inside a computer desk.

The man who was in the house at the time of the exercise was arrested in connection with the find.

In the Western Division, six persons were arrested for various offences and a magazine and quantity of ammunition discovered during ongoing anti-crime exercises yesterday.

Officers of the Western Division Criminal Investigations Department, Western Division Task Force, Air Support Unit and Gang Unit, executed several search warrants between 2 am and 9:30 am on Friday in the Division, which resulted in six men being arrested in separate incidents, for shooting and robbery offences.

Officers then proceeded to the Cocorite district, where they conducted a search of an open area near a mosque, which resulted in a magazine, along with eight rounds of ammunition being found.

Three more people were arrested and a firearm and quantity of narcotics seized by officers of the Central Division during an anti-crime exercise conducted in the Enterprise district yesterday.

The exercise was conducted between 2 pm and 6:30 pm by officers of the Chaguanas Criminal Investigations Department, the Central Division Task Force, the Central Division Operations Unit and the Special Crime Patrol Unit.

During the exercise, the officers executed a search warrant at the Walters Lane home of a man which resulted in a black and chrome Beretta pistol loaded with a magazine containing 15 rounds of 9mm ammunition and a quantity of narcotics being discovered.

The man and two others who were in the house at the time of the exercise were arrested in connection with the finds.
