Police arrest two San Fernando men for gun, ammo possession

A joint police and army anti-crime exercise conducted in the San Fernando district yesterday resulted in the arrest of two men and the seizure of one pistol, a laser light and a quantity of ammunition.

The exercise was conducted between 1 pm and 7 pm in the Embacadere area.

Based on information received, the officers proceeded to the apartment of a 20-year-old taxi driver at Lady Hailes Avenue, San Fernando, where a search was conducted.

The search resulted in one Glock 19 pistol fitted with an automatic selector, a makeshift laser light and loaded with one magazine containing 16 rounds of 9mm ammunition, being discovered in the apartment.

The owner of the apartment and a second suspect; a 24-year-old man of Ramsaran Street, San Fernando, who were both in the apartment at the time of the exercise, were arrested in connection with the find.

The exercise was coordinated by Acting Senior Superintendent Zamsheed Mohammed and included Inspector Don Gajadhar and Sergeant Vishal Parasram and personnel from the Trinidad and Tobago Regiment.
