Police: Autopsy scheduled after pensioner tied up, killed
An autopsy was scheduled to take on Monday at the Forensic Science Center in St James to determine how 62-year-old Monica Ruiz was killed.
It is believed that she suffocated in a home invasion gone wrong.
According to police reports, at about 11.30 am on Saturday, Ruiz sister went to her house at Thomasos Terrace, Sherwood Park, Arima, to drop off food for her sibling.
She told police that when the called out to Ruiz and heard no reply, she went to the back of the home.
She saw that a door was broken.
Upon entering the home, she found Ruiz dead on the floor of the bedroom.
Her hands and feet had been tied and her mouth gagged.
The house, police were told, was ransacked and several items of furniture were missing.
The scene was visited by a team of officers from the Northern Division and the Homicide Bureau, led by Snr Sup Michael Daniel and Snr Sup Kenneth Galindo.
