Police: Body of elderly St James woman bore marks of violence

An autopsy was scheduled to be performed on Tuesday to determine what caused the death of 77-year-old Gemma Khan.

Khan was found dead at about 9:00 am on Monday morning in her home along Mucurapo Road, St James.

When her body was found, it appeared to have been partially wrapped in a sheet and a pillow was over her head.

There was a trail of blood from her head as well, leading police to suspect that she had been beaten to death.

A television, as well as the woman’s Toyota Corolla, was also missing from the house.

Police observed that a door to the western side of the house appeared to have been hammered in.

Khan, police said, was last heard from on Saturday.

Since then relatives have been calling but did not get through.

It was not until Monday morning when they went to the home that they realized that something was amiss.

More on this as it becomes available.
