Police call for eyewitnesses after cyclist killed on PBR
The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service is urging eye-witnesses to come forward and identify a red band maxi taxi and its driver after the maxi-taxi drove away from the scene of an accident in which an elderly cyclist was killed.
The TTPS said in a statement that 64-year-old Leroy Calliste, of El Dorado, was riding his bicycle along the Priority Bus Route (PBR) in the vicinity of WASA, El Dorado around 5:45 pm on Saturday when he was struck by a white Lexus motor vehicle.
The driver of the Lexus told police he was heading east along the PBR behind a small red-band maxi taxi, when on reaching the vicinity of WASA, the maxi taxi pulled to the left onto the shoulder and stopped.
He said as he was about to pass the maxi taxi, a male cyclist rode out from in front of the maxi onto the lane and came into contact with his vehicle. The cyclist died on the scene.
The maxi taxi then drove off.
Any persons with information about the identity of the driver of the maxi taxi is asked to contact the police at 999, 555, 911 or the nearest police station.
