A 26-year-old man is expected to appear before a Tunapuna Magistrate this week charged with the 2017 murder of Ricardo Calvin Francis, aka ‘Chan’.

Che Lewis of Maingot Road, Tunapuna was charged with murder on July 17 at the Eastern Correctional Rehabilitation Centre by PC McQueen of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations Region 2.

This followed advice received from Director of Public Prosecutions Roger Gaspard SC on June 18.

He had been previously charged with possession of firearm and ammunition on June 18 by officers of the Tunapuna Police Station.

Francis, 49, was at a store at the corner of Crown and Back Streets, Tacarigua on May 27 2017, when two armed men entered.

A confrontation ensued among the victim and the assailants, during which he was shot in the face.

He died at the scene, while the two suspects escaped.

Lewis was arrested in connection with the incident on June 11 by officers of the Northern Division.

This murder was previously solved in 2018, with the charging of Alex Job, 32, of St Augustine.
