Police continuing investigations into doctor's tragic death

Police said they are finalizing their inquiries into the death of Dr Rudradeva Sharma.

Investigators are hopeful that within days, they will be able to take a file to the Director of Public Prosecutions, Roger Gaspard, for instructions on what charges, if any, should be levied against the two suspects.

Dr Sharma was killed following a kidnapping incident last week in South Trinidad.

Police said around 11.58 pm on Tuesday, Dr Sharma, 39, and Dr Prem Vijay Naidoo, 37, were attacked by the three men near Rushworth Street Extension, San Fernando.

The attackers forced them into the trunk of a white Honda CRV and headed north along the Solomon Hochoy Highway.

According to reports, the driver lost control of the vehicle near Claxton Bay and the vehicle flipped several times.

Dr Sharma succumbed to his injuries at the scene while Dr Naidoo and the three suspects were taken to hospital for treatment.

Police said a firearm was recovered at the scene.

Dr Naidoo and one of the suspects has since been discharged, while another suspect, identified as Akeem Marine of Lady Hailes Avenue, San Fernando, succumbed to his injuries.

The third suspect remains warded at the San Fernando General Hospital in a serious condition.

More on this as it becomes available.
