Over 10 kilogrammes in marijuana, and an estimated 12,000 marijuana trees was said to have been destroyed by officers of the Southern Division yesterday.
The operation took place under the supervision of Snr Sup Wayne Mohammed, and saw officers go to a forested area off La Lune Road, Moruga after getting information on marijuana plantations in the area.
After trekking four miles into the forest, the officers came across three marijuana fields which spanned across nine lots of lands. Nearby was a camp with an estimated 10 kilogrammes of cured marijuana and 2,000 seedlings.
The drugs were catalogued and police said an estimated 12,200 marijuana trees were in the three fields; they were all destroyed. Police said the drugs recorded at the scene had a value of over TT$12million.
The operation was supervised by Insp Mohammed, and included Cpl Bahadur and Cpl Phoolchan. The Air Support Unit, supervised Insp Rampalard, rendered assistance.
