Police increase patrols after shots fired in Diego Martin

Police exercises have been increased in the Diego Martin community as, for the second time in less than 12 hours, police have received reports of rapid gunfire.

The latest report came from the Blue Basin community, at about 10.55 am Sunday.

The first report was received around 10 pm on Saturday.

In both incidents, concerned residents reported hearing gunshots similar to automatic fire.

Police note that they had received intelligence that the gunfire is from a group of persons who are seeking to escalate gang violence in the community.

As a result, operations have begun - armed with intelligence gathered - and arrests are said to be imminent.

More on this as it becomes available.
