Police inspector found dead

A police inpsector was found dead at a house in Trincity on Sunday afternoon.

He has been identified as 54-year-old Ronald John of Waterman Road, Belmont.

Around 12.50 pm officers responded to a report of explosions at 3rd Street East, De La Marre Avenue, Trincity.

On arrival, they found the officer with a gunshot wound to the head.

A firearm was discovered near to his body.

He is believed to have died by suicide.

An autopsy has been ordered.

Meanwhile, Commissioner of Police Gary Griffith expressed condolences to the family the officer.

In a Facebook post, the Commissioner said he has noted that there are many negative comments being made and a letter being circulated via social media.

He said this is having "a very profoundly traumatic and negative effect" on the officer's wife, children, extended family and colleagues.

The Commissioner asked persons to refrain from posting negative comments and pictures on social media and allow the family their time to grieve and deal with the loss of their loved one with dignity and peace.
