Police investigating attempted kidnapping in Freeport
Police are investigating a report of an attempted kidnapping in Freeport.
Loop News was told that the 18-year-old woman was with her family at a home along Lime Fruit Road on Monday morning when attackers tried to take the woman from her home.
However, a neighbour's alarm went off at the same time, causing the men to flee.
Police said in the struggle, the teenager, her 23-year-old brother and their 58-year-old father were assaulted by the gunmen. They were later taken to hospital for treatment.
Police said the older man had severe trauma to his head with broken teeth and an injured sinus.
Police said the masked men were able to escape with a quantity of cash, jewellery, and electronics. Officials said this is the fourth reported home invasion over two weeks in the Freeport community.
According to police reports, in a previous unrelated incident a family of four, including two boys aged 14 and 17, were robbed at gunpoint. The family was forced to hand over cash and valuables amounting to “well over $40,000”. However, no one was seriously hurt in that incident.
As a result of these incidents, police have begun to increase patrols in the community.
More on this as it becomes available.
