Police investigating Barataria home invasion, shooting
Barataria police are investigating a shooting incident in which two persons narrowly escaped with their lives.
No injuries were reported, however, officers have increased patrols in the area as a result of the incident.
According to police reports, at about 1.40 am on Sunday, a 25-year-old woman and a 54-year-old man were asleep, when they were awoken by a banging on the front door, followed by someone screaming, "Police, open the door or I’ll kill you”.
A man with a bandanna over his face then kicked down the door and hit the male victim with a gun to his head.
However, the female victim intervened, and there was a struggle between the victims and the gunman, during which the firearm discharged.
Miraculously, despite the close quarters, no one was injured.
After the gun was fired, the assailant fled the scene on foot.
The police were notified and officers of the North Eastern Division responded.
One spent .45mm shell, along with a live projectile, were recovered.
The suspect was said to be a man of African descent, stocky build, brown in complexion, five feet six inches tall, and was clad in a black vest and a three-quarter pants.
