Police investigating Port of Spain robbery ring

With the seizure of about a dozen license plates in Port of Spain, police suspect they have uncovered a robbery ring.

The discovery was made hours after a vehicle was reported as stolen at gunpoint from the St Joseph district.

Officers of the Emergency Response Patrol Unit conducted inquiries which resulted in the vehicle being recovered in Port of Spain.

The vehicle, a white Nissan sedan, was recovered around 7.05am yesterday along George Street, during an operation which included WPC Herriera and PC Dillon.

When officers arrived at the scene, they observed that the license plate of the vehicle had been removed.

A search of the area resulted in other license plates in the nearby vicinity.

It is believed that these plates which were seized were removed from other vehicles which had been stolen in recent times.

They are expected to be examined for fingerprints with the aim of identifying the persons who may be associated with this ‘robbery ring’.

The plates are also expected to be traced, and police will be searching for the vehicles the plates are registered to.

More on this as it becomes available.
