Police investigating separate robberies in Port-of-Spain
Police officers are investigating robberies in Port-of-Spain in which two men were attacked by bandits while going about their business.
In one instance, an Estate Police Constable was ambushed and beaten by a gang of men in Port-of-Spain.
The estate constable, who is attached to MTS Security, was said to be walking east along Prince Street, Port-of-Spain around 8 pm on Thursday, when he was approached by seven men.
The men surrounded him and demanded that the 42-year-old security officer hand over his cash and valuables.
The victim attempted to resist and a struggle ensued.
The assailants then dragged the victim into a nearby track, where they proceeded to beat him, before relieving him of his cash and valuables including his Samsung S7 cellular phone valued at $3000.
The men escaped by running off to a nearby track.
The police were notified and officers of the Besson Street Police Station, led by Cpl Murray and WPC Boyd, are said to be continuing inquiries.
A 20-year-old Princes Town man was also beaten and robbed while walking through Port-of-Spain.
The victim, of Aldana Street, Princes Town, did not suffer any serious injuries.
The incident took place around 6 pm on Thursday, near George Street, Port-of-Spain.
According to police reports, the man was walking when upon reaching the vicinity of Queen’s Supermarket, he was ambushed by a man not known to him.
The man had a glass bottle in his hand, which he smashed against the 20-year-old’s head, demanding that he hand over all his cash and valuables.
The victim complied and the assailant escaped by running along George Street.
