Police kill gunman, eight arrested in Central anti-crime exercise
A gunman is dead and eight other male suspects arrested by officers of the Central Division’s Special Operations Unit, following a police-involved shooting in the Charleville district on Tuesday afternoon.
Around 3:00 pm, officers were conducting an anti-crime exercise when they proceeded to a house at Pierre Road, Charlieville, in an attempt to execute a search warrant for firearms.
Upon arrival at the location, the officers observed a group of nine men.
One of the men reportedly pulled out a gun and pointed it at the police.
The officers then responded in accordance with “the use of force policy” and shot at the suspect. The man died at the scene and the firearm was subsequently recovered.
The other eight suspects were arrested and searched during which a second firearm found in the possession of one of the men.
Investigations are ongoing.
