Police kill ‘Mad Dog’ after he shoots at them

A 25-year-old man is dead after he allegedly opened fire on police this morning. 

The deceased has been identified as Nigel 'Mad Dog' Antoine of Claxton Bay. 

Police said he was originally from Richplain, Diego Martin. 

According to police reports, at about 6am today officers in the Central Division were conducting searches in the community after receiving intelligence of firearm related activities in the area. 

During a search of Antoine’s home, in his presence, rounds of 5.56mm were allegedly found. 
After being made aware of the discovery, Antoine, police said, allegedly pushed down the officer who was guarding him, and ran into the bedroom. 

He exited with a firearm and begun shooting at the officers. 

They returned fire with their licensed weapons. 

Antoine was hit several times about the body and fell to the ground. 

The weapon, a loaded revolver, was recovered on the scene. 

He was rushed to the Chaguanas District Hospital, however, he succumbed to his wounds.
