Police kill man they say 'rushed' at them with a cutlass

A 30-year-old man was killed on Saturday morning following a confrontation with police.

Information on this incident is still coming in, however, the deceased has been identified as Rishi Rampaul.

Officers of the Barataria Police Station and the North Eastern Division responded to a report that a man was threatening to burn a house down along Rambhaju Street, Aranguez.

When they arrived, they met Rampaul, who was said to have a cutlass in one hand and a flammable substance in the other.

The officers called on the man to surrender, however, he allegedly “rushed” at the men.

The officers drew their licensed firearms and shot the 30-year-old man.

He died on the scene.
