Police to drivers: Stop speeding
Motorists are once again being called to adhere to the speed limits of this country as, within a seven day period, 196 speeding tickets were issued in the Northern Division alone.
The district, which is spearheaded by ACP McDonald Jacob and Snr Sup Michael Daniel, has been conducting several policing initiatives in the district in an attempt to reduce crime and criminal activities and to make the district a safer place.
This has led to 891 police patrols being conducted and 317 roadblocks being performed.
The results of these exercises over a seven day period which ended on Monday, has been the arrests of 131 persons and the issuance of 295 fixed penalty tickets.
However, more alarmingly, police said, was the fact that motorists continue to break the speed limits on the Eastern Main Road and the Churchill Roosevelt Highway.
It was a result of exercises on both these major roadways, that the 196 persons were found to be in breach of the speed limit.
As a result, they were ticketed, and the fines are expected to be paid, unless an application to challenge the fines are made before the courts.
More on this as it becomes available.
