Police nab robbery suspect after high-speed highway chase
Police led a high-speed chase on Sunday night after a Gasparillo man was robbed of his vehicle at gunpoint.
According to police reports, the 40-year-old victim was standing next to his Mitsubishi Lancer along Parforce Road, Gasparillo, when he was confronted by three men around 11:00 pm on Sunday night.
One of the men, who was armed with a firearm, announced a hold-up.
The attackers then took the keys to the vehicle as well as the victim’s cash and valuables and fled the scene in the victim’s car.
The victim made a report to the police and an all-points bulletin was issued.
Officers of the Southern Division and the Central Division, and the Highway Patrol Unit were all given descriptions of the suspects as well as the vehicle.
Officers of the Debe Highway Patrol Unit then spotted the vehicle heading north along the Sir Solomon Hochoy Highway and gave chase in an attempt to intercept the car.
The driver was eventually caught a short while later in the vicinity of the Chaguanas Overpass, with assistance from officers of the Central Division, under the supervision of Snr Sup Balram and ASP Smith.
The vehicle was searched and seized and the 22-year-old, who was the only male occupant at the time, was immediately arrested.
He is currently said to be aiding police with inquiries, and further arrests, LoopTT was told, are imminent.
