Police officer shot in Cocorite

A police constable has been left nursing a gunshot injury following a shooting incident last night in Cocorite.

The officer, identified as PC Pierre of the St James Crime Patrol Unit, was in the company of other officers of the Western Division conducting routine patrols in the Cocorite district, just before midnight, when an explosion was heard.

Pierre then felt a burning sensation to his upper leg.

He raised an alarm and the wounded man was rushed to the St James District Hospital, and then to the Port of Spain General Hospital.

Thankfully, his injuries were not said to be life threatening.
