Police officers granted bail on Misbehaviour in Public Office charge

Two police officers have appeared before a Port of Spain Magistrate on allegations of Misbehaviour in Public Office.

The allegations stem from a confrontation they had with a man while responding to a report of a disturbance in Morvant last year.

Cpl Anthony Seebaran, 45, and PC Lester Jones, 38, appeared before Magistrate Marisa Gomez. They were both accused of misbehaviour in public office after they allegedly stole US $1,800 from the victim on May 22 at a house in Eastern Main Road, Morvant.

Seebaran faced the additional charge of corruptly receiving $150.

The charges were laid indictably and as a result, neither officer was called upon to enter a plea.

After submissions to the court, bail was granted to both lawmen, with Seebaran being granted $80,000 bail, and Jones granted $60,000 bail.

The matter was then adjourned and is expected to resume on March 29.

More on this as it becomes available.
