Police probe conduct of fellow officer
The conduct of a senior police officer last week is being looked at to see if she breached any laws or police regulations.
Allegations were made that the officer went to the Chaguanas Police Station last Saturday and ordered that a suspect, who had been detained at that time on allegations of domestic abuse, be released.
Junior officers complied with the order of the Senior Officer out of respect for her rank, however, they notified the heads of their division, as well as the investigative team of the developments.
These individuals contacted the senior police woman, and within an hour, the suspect was back in police custody.
And while LoopTT was told that the actions of the senior police officer were technically within her remit, as officers of her rank have the power to order the release of a prisoner, and suggest that such matters continue by way of summons, the incident did raise questions of whether what she did was morally right and even if it amounted to misbehaviour in public office.
