Police to ramp up patrols as gang violence increases in Laventille

Besson Street Police were called out to the scene of a shooting in Laventille last night as the ongoing gang violence continues.

No one was injured in last night’s incident, however.

As a result of the heightened activity, police are expected to increase their patrols in the community over the coming days in an attempt to prevent further incidents.

According to police reports, around 11 pm yesterday, residents of Block 22 in Laventille, heard several loud explosions.

They then observed a vehicle fleeing the scene.

In the car, police were told, were men with what appeared to be firearms.

Checks in the community confirmed that no one was injured from the incident.

However, there was damage to some buildings.

Police believe that the shooting is a result of continued gang violence between two warring groups, namely the Rasta City and the Muslim gangs.
