Police seize guns, hours after Carenage shooting
Just over a day after two men were shot along Upper Abbe Poujade Street in Carenage, police exercises in the area have resulted in the seizures of two firearms and a quantity of ammunition.
The exercises, which took place on Saturday morning, were carried out by officers of the Western Division Task Force and the Western Division Criminal Investigations Department.
According to reports, the officers received key intelligence which led them to the homes of two persons.
In one house, the officers executed a search warrant in the presence of a 34-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman, where a Glock 17 pistol, along with 17 rounds of ammunition were found and seized.
As a result, the couple was arrested.
PC Belmar is continuing inquiries.
Another search warrant was executed at a nearby home in the presence of a 20-year-old man, where a Beretta Pistol loaded with 10 rounds of ammunition was found and seized. This also led to the arrest of the young man.
PC McClean is continuing inquiries.
The exercise also led to the arrests of five other persons on inquiries related to shooting related offences.
The team involved in this exercise and these arrests included Inspector Vincent,Sgt Arneaud, Sgt Nicome, Sgt Campbell, Sgt Adams, and PC's Williams Gilkes, Peltier, Genty, Bart, Ward, James, and WPC Matthews amongst several others.
The persons who were detained are all to be questioned, before appearing at the Port of Spain Magistrates' court this week.
