Police sergeant, mother of three shot dead on Charlotte Street
A police sergeant and a mother of three were shot dead last night when gunmen opened fire on a group of people along Charlotte Street, Port of Spain.
The deceased have been identified as Natoya Christian, 37, of Laventille, and Sergeant Roger Williams, 50, of Belmont.
According to police reports, around 7 pm on Saturday, two men were seen walking along Charlotte Street when they opened fire on a group of people.
It is believed one man in the group was the intended target of the attack.
In the aftermath of the shooting, Christian and Williams were fatally shot, while 28-year-old Elvon Gildings of Laventille, received serious injuries.
Gildings, police said, was a vendor, and up to 9 am today was still undergoing emergency treatment for his wounds.
A fourth victim, a 46-year-old vendor from Dillon Street, Diego Martin, also suffered injuries in this incident but her wounds were said to be minor and she was treated and discharged.
Christian died on the scene, while Williams, who was moonlighting as security at a nearby bar, died at the Port of Spain General Hospital while undergoing treatment.
A Sig Sauer pistol loaded with 14 rounds of 9mm ammunition was seized on the scene.
Loop News was told the weapon belonged to the police sergeant.
He was killed before he was able to draw it.
