Police shoot and kill suspected bandit in Diego Martin

Update November 8, 2018, 10:00 am:

A 27-year-old man is dead following a confrontation with police in Diego Martin on Wednesday afternoon.

The deceased has been identified as Matthew Samaroo of St Lucien Road, Diego Martin.

According to police reports, at about 5:15 pm on Wednesday, police received a report of a robbery in Diamond Vale.

The officers said received key intelligence which led them to a river off St Lucien Road, where they encountered a group of men.

The men, police said, were observed with items matching the description of those stolen.

The officers called on the men to stop, however, one of the men pulled out a firearm and shot at the lawmen.

The officers returned fire, resulting in Samaroo being hit multiple times.

The other accused fled the scene.

Samaroo was rushed to the St  James District Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. 

Several stolen items, along with a firearm, were allegedly seized at the scene.

A suspected bandit was shot and killed by police in Diego Martin on Wednesday afternoon.

According to reports, around 5:00 pm, Western Division Police responded to calls about a gunman spotted at Hillaire Drive, Diego Martin. There was also said to be a larceny in the area.

When police arrived at the scene, they saw a man who, on noticing them, allegedly pointed a gun in their direction.

Police returned fire killing the man.

Investigations are continuing.
