The Police Service (TTPS) is warning citizens to wary of people posing as vendors along the Churchill Roosevelt Highway, but who are engaged in an extortion scam.
According to a statement from the Police Service on Tuesday, officers have received reports that those engaged in the scam create a situation where their vending carts make contact with the vehicle of an unsuspecting motorist.
The scam artiste then accuses the motorist of causing damage to his cart and proceeds under threat to extort money from the motorist.
The TTPS advises motorists that in the event an accident has occurred in the manner as described, a report should be made to the nearest police station.
It also advised against any private arrangement to settle.
Those who may have fallen victim to this highway scam are urged to come forward and make a report to the police.
