Political activist released after sexual grooming allegations
A political activist in Tobago, who has been linked to allegations of sexual grooming, has been questioned by police.
However, the suspect has been released pending further inquiries.
At the close of the investigations, officers are expected to submit a file for legal advice on what charges, if any, should be levied against the 34-year-old man.
The allegations involved a well-known political activist, who has links with the Tobago House of Assembly, and a 15-year-old schoolboy.
The teenager allegedly received a series of messages on Facebook Messenger recently.
Photos of a Facebook Messenger conversation shared online showed one person asking for sexual favours and the other rejecting the offer. The person asking for the favour was then seen asking the other to delete the conversation.
The boy’s mother became aware of these messages last Monday and made a report to police.
The matter has since been handed over to the Child Protection Unit.
More on this as it becomes available.
