PoS District Court to temporarily close for sanitisation

The operations of the Port of Spain District Court have been adjusted according to a statement from the Judiciary.

As a precaution, no one will be allowed into the Court building until sanitisation has been completed.

Vacating has become necessary as a precautionary measure given that an officer’s COVID-19 status is being examined.

“While no one has been confirmed as COVID-19 positive, the usual precautions for this level of exposure have called for the current course of action,” the statement said.

Limited in-person activity will resume in the Court building from September 23, 2020.

Persons seeking access to the court building must make an appointment in advance by contacting the court office via the telephone or email.

The sanitisation of the facility will be conducted as required and there shall be no in-person hearings or activities.

Meanwhile, attention is drawn to the Judiciary’s Practice Direction No 6 of September 16, 2020, which has dealt with the general discontinuation of in-person hearings except in limited circumstances.

Members of the public will be kept apprised of developments and are reminded that services such as CourtPay, the Domestic Violence Hotline and e-filing are available.
