PriceSmart distances itself from dog poisoning incident
PriceSmart is distancing itself from a dog poisoning incident which was captured on video.
The video shows dogs dead from alleged poisoning on the compound of PriceSmart La Romaine.
In a statement, PriceSmart said it does not condone cruelty to animals.
The company said it has and continues to work with animal shelters to address the issue of stray dogs.
"For the past 21 years and in our 13 countries PriceSmart operates, this was an isolated incident," the company said.
PriceSmart said it investigated the incident thoroughly.
"Fourteen months ago we learnt of the tragic, inhumane incident and it was thoroughly investigated. After exhaustive research we couldn't ascertain the identity of the person or persons that committed this horrific act," the company said.
The company said it was not aware that a video of the incident existed which could have been used in its investigation.
"The video was made known to PriceSmart fully nine months later, by a former employee, during his termination hearing for grounds that ultimately ended resulted in his criminal conviction for theft,"
