Princes Town RC closed on Friday as fire guts computer lab
The Ministry of Education says students and staff are safe following a fire that broke out on the compound of the Princes Town RC Primary School on Thursday.
The fire, which originated from the computer room, was extinguished by Fire Service Officials.
The school will be closed on Friday as the building which houses the computer room sustained structural damage. The Ministry says the closure will facilitate a thorough inspection, cleaning and sanitisation of the area.
Minister of State in the Ministry of Education Dr Lovell Francis went to the school and commended the quick response by staff to ensure all students were safe and accounted for during the emergency.
“I would like to thank the principal and staff for their presence of mind and professionalism, the students for their discipline, the Police Service for maintaining order and the Fire Officers headed by ADFO Arjoon for saving our school with their quick action,” he said.
The Ministry of Education has since trigged all emergency response protocols and will collaborate with the Ministry of Works and Transport to assess the structural integrity of the building.
