Prison officer in court for smuggling weed into prison

A prison officer who was allegedly caught smuggling marijuana into the Maximum Security Prison was due to appear in court on Monday to answer the charges.

The officer was allegedly held with a quantity of marijuana while trying to enter the Maximum Security Prison in Arouca.

The officer was said to have been held on Sunday morning.

He was subjected to a search after his seniors observed an unnatural bulge in his pants.

This led to the discovery of four packets of marijuana being found and seized.

Officers from the Arouca police station were notified and the prison officer was handed over to the care of the police.
