Prison officer arrested after plant-like substance found in lunch bag

A prison officer with over 25 years' service was found to be in possession of several packets of plant-like substances concealed in his lunch bag at the Maximum Security Prison.

A statement from the Trinidad and Tobago Prisons Service on Sunday, indicated that the officer was held during a random search exercise on Saturday night.

It said the discovery prompted a further search of the prison officer's vehicle where several additional packets were found.

The Arouca Police were immediately contacted and the officer was arrested.

He is expected to be charged.

Acting Commissioner of Prisons Dane Clarke expressed his satisfaction at the results of the increased efforts and initiatives undertaken to purge the service of individuals who he said continuously put their colleagues' lives at risk by their actions.
