Prison officer arrested with contraband

A prison officer is in police custody after he was held with contraband items including cellphones, chargers, headsets, lights, cigarettes, hemp, and even alcohol. 

The officer was held on Tuesday afternoon during a police operation led by Inspector Pitt and Sgt Pamphille. 

Acting on information, the officers intercepted a vehicle along the Golden Grove Road in the vicinity of the Remand Yard prison, where the officer was attached. 

He was searched and, in his car, the officers found the contraband items, including over 9,000 individual cigarettes, 350 packets of hemp, 10 bottles of alcohol and over 30 phones, among others things. 

The prison officer was questioned and detained. He is aiding police with further inquiries.
