A prison officer with over 22 years of service was arrested on Thursday after he was caught with contraband items at the Golden Grove Prison on Thursday.

According to a statement from the Trinidad and Tobago Prison Service, a random search was performed on the officer by a senior member of the Prison Service.

The prison officer was found to be in possession of several packets of sealed cigarettes as well as 50 packets of ‘Bambu’ wrapping paper.

Police was subsequently contacted.

Upon arrival of the police officers, the private vehicle belonging to the prison officer was searched and four mobile phones were confiscated from the vehicle.

The officer was taken to the Arouca Police Station where charges are expected to be laid.
