Prison officer robbed at gunpoint

A prison officer was robbed at gunpoint on Saturday morning.

According to police reports, at about 4.30 am on Saturday, the victim was in his Hyundai Tucson motor vehicle, along Lion’s Drive, Orangefield, when he was accosted by a masked man who was armed with a firearm.

The man, police were told, instructed the prison officer to exit the car, and the victim was relieved of $5,000 in cash.

However, in a strange turn, the thief did not take the vehicle but rather, fled the scene on foot.

The prison officer drove away, and made a report to the police.

Sgt Nelson is continuing inquiries.

More on this as it becomes available.
