Prison officer robbed at gunpoint; police deny reports of shooting
Police have confirmed that a prison officer was robbed at gunpoint on Tuesday afternoon.
The prison officer, a 41-year-old man from Belmont, was in a store along Nelson Street, Port of Spain, when three armed men entered the establishment and announced a holdup.
The assailants then stole TT$5,387 in cash from the prison officer and fled the scene.
The officer, LoopTT was told, was not injured.
A report was made to the police and WPC Boyd has been appointed to investigate the incident.
Responding to social media reports that two prison officers had been shot on Wednesday police have dismissed these reports as “fake news”.
The reports follow the shooting deaths of two prisons officers within the last two weeks.
The public is, therefore, being asked to be mindful of what is forwarded on social media platforms and to verify the information with legitimate news organisations or through the Police Service’s social media pages.
