Prison officer shot at in Maloney

A prison officer attached to the Maximum Security Prison in Arouca was shot at by a masked man in Maloney.

Thankfully the assailant missed all his shots, and no injuries were reported.

According to police reports around 12.05 am on Saturday, the 27-year-old prison officer from D’Abadie was liming with a group of men at Maloney Boulevard in the vicinity of Building 6 when they saw a man they didn't know.

The suspect was dressed in a black long-sleeved hooded jacket, with a rag covering his face.

Without warning the man pulled out a firearm and shot several times at the group.

The friends, on seeing the armed assailant scampered for safety.

No one was injured.

The assailant then escaped on foot.

The prison officer, upon returning to the scene later that morning, observed that his Nissan Navara had sustained damages, with bullet holes in the tray of the van.

Sgt Katwaroo is continuing inquiries.
