Prison officer’s home broken into

An air-rifle is among several of the items stolen from the home of a prison officer.

The discovery was made around 3:30 pm on Sunday.

The prison officer, who was last attached to the Maximum Security Prison and is currently on vacation told police he secured his Wallerfield home and went away on August 2.

He only returned on August 11 and upon his arrival he observed that the back door to his home had been pried open and the house had been ransacked.

While a complete list of the missing items is unavailable, police were told the stolen items included a Prison Service Uniform, seven pairs of sneakers and a Hatsan air-rifle.

WPC Paponette is continuing inquiries.
