Prisoner escapes from Caura Hospital, recaptured by police

A male prisoner who escaped while receiving medical attention at Caura Hospital on Sunday night was arrested early Monday morning in the El Dorado district.

According to a statement from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), the prisoner was receiving treatment when he managed to escape around 7:18 pm.

Several units, including the Air Support Unit, were dispatched to the location as part of a coordinated search operation.

As officers at the Northern Division Operations Centre monitored strategic CCTV cameras in the Division, a man matching the description of the prisoner was observed walking along Goya Road, around 12:50 am.

Officers of the Northern Division Task Force arrived at the location within minutes and were able to apprehend the prisoner, who was taken to Arouca Police Station.

Investigations are ongoing.
