Probe underway after latest fire at POSGH
An internal investigation into the cause of a fire at the Physiotherapy Department of the Port of Spain General Hospital on Monday afternoon is ongoing.
The department remained closed today to facilitate cleanup and disinfecting exercises. Outpatients who had appointments for today were contacted for them to be rescheduled.
Responding to a question on behalf of his colleague in the Senate on Tuesday, Agriculture Minister Clarence Rambharat gave an update on the situation at the hospital following Monday afternoon’s fire.
He indicated that preliminary reports have pointed to the fire originating from the department’s kitchen.
Meanwhile, three patients who were relocated following Monday afternoon's fire have been returned to the Intensive Care Unit.
No one was injured during the fire.
In an update from the North West Regional Health Authority on Tuesday afternoon, the public was advised that the Physiotheraphy Department will remain closed for the remainder of the week, to facilitate thorough cleaning and air quality testing.
All outpatients with scheduled appointments for Wednesday through Friday will be contacted to reschedule.
The NWRHA expects that the department will be reopened next Monday from 7 am.
