Promoters come together to market Jazz season in T&T
As has become the norm, the immediate period after Carnival sees a number of jazz events being staged across the country.
From the popular and growing Jazz Artists on the Greens to Tobago Jazz Experience, T&T is fast marking its name as a place for jazz music of all kinds.
In an effort to create a viable tourism product outside the Carnival season, promoters of jazz events have agreed to come together market this time of year as the Trinidad Jazz Season.
“We are a small island of one point something million so it doesn’t make sense competing and fighting down each other especially since each event is slightly different. We said let’s sit down and offer a series of events as a group package so people can choose if they want to attend,” said Carl ‘Beaver’ Henderson, who is spearheading the initiative.
“This is the first step. We are recognised as a period in the year and by next year we will have a calendar, people could go online and see the events on the calendar of the jazz season,” he said.
The season kicked off on Saturday evening with Beaver’s Sunset Jazz event which featured US Jazz band Spyra Gyro, Vaughnette Bigford, Anselm Douglas and others at O2 Park in Chaguaramas and will end with the North Coast Jazz on May 25.
Beaver said with the collaboration among jazz promoters, other promoters, among them some musicians, who have been flying below the radar have been calling to have their events included in the shared marketing.
