PTSC suspends Rio Claro/Mayaro service due to landslide
The Publis Transport Service Corporation (PTSC) has announced that the Rio Claro/Mayaro leg of its service has been cancelled due to a landslip on the Naparima Mayaro Road.
Mayaro MP Rushton Paray said his office was notified by the PTSC that the service will now be restricted to San Fernando/Rio Claro under the following schedule:
Rio Claro to San Fernando
Paray said his office has been addressing the issue of the Agostini Landslip for some time and had raised the matter in Parliament. He said letters had also been written to various State agencies, the Minister and Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley.
MP Paray has been advised that the work will start in early January 2018.
"The Ministry of Works Rio Claro has assured our office that there is a daily monitoring regime in place and minor remedial works will be executed in the meantime when required."
Paray said he has asked the Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission to assist with lighting the area of the depression as a safety measure for unfamiliar drivers to the area. He said traffic management has also installed several pieces of road warning and signage advising caution.
"We will continue to engage all the necessary stakeholders to ensure action is taken as promised taking into consideration the negative economic impact on the country," Paray said.
